Developed for videography and photography
With the wide-angle lens from Samyang, you are equipped for both video and photography without having to make time-consuming changes to your camera. The aperture can be adjusted continuously, which means that changes to the exposure can even be made smoothly during the take. Both the aperture ring and focus ring are equipped with a gear ring and are therefore optimized for use with follow focus systems. Attention, the lens offers an APS-C image circle!
Expressive and bright landscape shots
With its focal length of 16 mm, the Samyang 16 mm T/2.2 APS-C is ideal for expressive landscape shots and as a reportage lens thanks to its wide angle of view and high depth of field. The high speed of T/2.2 enables short exposure times even in unfavorable lighting conditions and can therefore also be used excellently indoors. The focus and aperture are set manually. The close-up focusing distance is 20 cm.
Sophisticated optical design for outstanding image quality
A sophisticated optical design with 13 multi-coated glass lenses, including two aspherical lenses, ensures particularly high imaging performance. Thanks to the use of ED glass, color and aperture errors are compensated for, so that no annoying color fringing occurs and high image quality is guaranteed. The multi-coated lenses prevent reflections and therefore provide the image with more light. In addition, the coating also increases the contrast and produces a more brilliant color reproduction.
Very high-quality workmanship
The metal housing is very robust and impresses with its elegant appearance. In addition to the high-quality optics, the removable lens hood, which prevents stray light and lens reflections from entering from the side, ensures optimum image results and further design options. The filter thread has a diameter of 77 mm.
Using an APS-C lens on a camera with a full-frame sensor
Lenses that were developed for cameras with an APS-C sensor can sometimes be used on cameras with a full-frame sensor (mainly using an adapter). As the image circle of APS-C lenses is smaller than that of a full-frame sensor, this results in black edges. The usable area of the image photographed with a full-frame camera therefore corresponds to that of a camera with an APS-C sensor, but it is possible to work with Open Gate and subsequent framing. However, the images must always be cropped in post-processing. The use of APS-C lenses on full-frame cameras is therefore possible, but not recommended.
Why the aperture is sometimes given in T
In photography, the abbreviation "f" is used for aperture (from "focal length"). The specified value indicates the ratio between the focal length and the entrance pupil of the lens. In the film and video sector, on the other hand, the abbreviation "T" is used, which stands for "transmission". This value is calculated from the aperture f and the light loss in the respective lens. It indicates the net brightness of the image that hits the sensor. This makes it possible to change the lens when filming: as long as the "T-Stop" is selected the same for both lenses, it is guaranteed that two shots filmed with different lenses of the same subject will be equally bright. This means there are no jumps in brightness when they are merged in the edit.
