Developed for videography and photography
With the Samyang 8/3.1 Fisheye VCSC, you are equipped for both video and photography without having to make time-consuming changes to your camera. The aperture can be adjusted continuously, minimizing exposure transitions. The aperture ring and focus ring are equipped with a gear ring and are therefore optimized for use with focus pullers (follow focus systems). Lens for APS cameras!
Exceptional creative possibilities
Whether panorama and landscape photography or unique effect images - thanks to the special depth of field and an image angle of 180°, there are no limits to your creativity. The Samyang 8/3.1 Fisheye VCSC offers photographers and filmmakers a wide range of creative possibilities. Straight lines that are not in the center of the image are shown as falling, the distortion is strongly barrel-shaped. At 8 mm, this special type of lens has a particularly short focal length for its image format size, which means that the image is depicted with curved shapes. This gives images taken with the Samyang Fish-Eye its typical spherically distorted perspective. Focusing and aperture adjustment are manual.
Excellent optical construction
All 11 glass elements of the lens are multi-coated, resulting in an excellent contrast and sharpness range as well as a balanced color balance. Thanks to the use of three ED (extra low dispersion) and two aspherical lenses, chromatic aberrations and spherical image errors are corrected. The particularly high-quality optics of the lens ensure optimum image results. The high speed of T/3.1 enables excellent images to be taken even in less favorable lighting conditions. A fixed lens hood prevents light entering from the side and lens reflections. The lens is suitable for system cameras and is therefore particularly light and easy to handle.
Using an APS-C lens on a camera with a full-frame sensor
Lenses that were developed for cameras with an APS-C sensor can also be used on cameras with a full-frame sensor in some cases (mainly using an adapter). Due to the significantly smaller image circle of APS-C lenses, the sensor area shows everything outside the image circle in black. The usable area of the image photographed with a full-frame camera therefore corresponds to that of a camera with an APS-C sensor and is correspondingly smaller. The images must therefore be cropped in post-processing. In the video sector, this method requires framing in post-production. The use of APS-C lenses on full-frame cameras is therefore possible, but not recommended.
Why the aperture is sometimes given in T
In photography, the abbreviation "f" is used for aperture (from "focal length"). The specified value indicates the ratio between the focal length and the entrance pupil on the lens. In the film and video sector, on the other hand, the abbreviation "T" is used, which stands for "transmission". This value is calculated from the aperture f and the light loss in the respective lens. It indicates the net brightness of the image that hits the sensor. This makes it possible to change the lens when filming: as long as the "T-Stop" is selected the same for both lenses, it is guaranteed that two shots filmed with different lenses of the same subject will be equally bright. This means there are no jumps in brightness when they are merged in the edit.
