Cine-Lens Features
A transmission of T1.9 is achieved at open aperture. The Samyang 20mm T1.9 Video DSLR lens is the ideal companion for filmmakers and guarantees good results even in low light conditions. This video DSLR lens has been designed to meet the special requirements of filmmakers and videographers. The object in focus is brought out vividly, while the background is bathed in a wonderfully soft bokeh when the aperture is open. This wide-angle cine lens for full-frame sensors is not only suitable for indoor shots, but also for concerts, landscapes and street scenes.
Optical processing
The Samyang 20 mm T1.9 Video DSLR lens has been equipped with the best optical technology Samyang has to offer. The wide-angle lens is coated with Samyang's own Ultra Multi Coating UMC. The combination of coating, the two aspherical glass elements (ASP) and the three extra-low dispersion glass elements (ED) reduces chromatic aberrations to a minimum and prevents unsightly light scattering. The glass construction consists of 13 glass elements, which are divided into 12 groups and ensure sharp images from the center of the image to the edge.
7 aperture blades ensure almost circular highlights when the aperture is open, the bokeh is breathtaking. When the aperture is closed, crystal-clear, increasingly star-shaped highlights appear. The lens is compact and robust and is therefore the ideal companion, even in suboptimal shooting conditions. The angle of view on the 35mm full-frame sensor is 94.8°, on the APS-C sensor 70.3°.
Why the aperture is sometimes given in T
In photography, the abbreviation "f" is used for aperture (from "focal length"). The specified value indicates the ratio between the focal length and the entrance pupil of the lens. In the film and video sector, on the other hand, the abbreviation "T" is used, which stands for "transmission". This value is calculated from the aperture f and the light loss in the respective lens. It indicates the net brightness of the image that hits the sensor. This makes it possible to change the lens when filming: as long as the "T-Stop" is selected the same for both lenses, it is guaranteed that two shots filmed with different lenses of the same subject will be equally bright. This means that there are no jumps in brightness when the two shots are joined together in the edit.
The crop factor
The focal length of a lens is always specified in relation to a full-frame sensor. The full-frame sensor has the same size as an image from 35mm film. With smaller sensors in the cameras, for example APS-C or MFT, a smaller section of the image is used, which the lens throws onto the sensor. This corresponds to a longer focal length. The crop factor indicates how much the focal length changes as a result. The image then shows the same section as if it had been taken by a full-frame camera at the corresponding focal length. Three common crop factors: APS-C for Nikon and Sony: 1.5 (100 mm becomes 150 mm), APS-C for Canon: 1.6 (100 mm becomes 160 mm), MFT: 2 (100 mm becomes 200 mm).
